Question regarding Birth certificate.

Hi,
I have a few questions regarding the Birth certificate for filing of
I-485:
1) My husband was born in a remote placesay X. Now his parents have shifted from that place and moved to place say Y, and they have no relatives in place X. Also, it is very difficult for them to go to that place X.
Now my question is for the birth certificate, is it necessary that it has to be from the same hospital from place X, or is it OK if he can get a birth certificate from the municipality of place Y stating that he was born in X place.( There is no distortion of facts here).

2) My birth certificate is in my native language and has a typo in my surname. If I get it translated, is it possible that I have the typo corrected and what are the agencies in the USA that do the translation.

Would appreciate suggestions and responses.

Birth Certificate

Birth Certificate should always be issued by a Municipal or BC authority - (Not Hospital)

If the BC is not available, then the competent authority issues
a NOT Available certificate.
AND
Two nearby relative issue an affidavit that says
the so and so was born on so and so date blah.
These two relatives have to be a major while the subject was born.

BC is a big deal.

Am not a lawyer.....the info above is just my 2 cents worth.

Thanks for your reply. Can anyone please let me know what is considered as " a competent government authority". Is it a specific dept or any governement gazetted officer is OK?

It is usually your Health Department Under your City Corporation that issues birth and death certificates.

A DEPARTMENT has to issue the certificate - not a single person.

---------- Check your husband passport and note down the City or village written on it, if he was born in city then he has to get BC or non-viability from that city municipality, if he was born in village then non-availability can be issued from District registrar of Birth and death, every district has that office or Village Panchayat can also give that letter with SEAL/stamp. If that is not in English then get it translated on 10 rupees stamp paper from notary public and send the copy of that with I-485
2) My birth certificate is in my native language and has a typo in my surname. If I get it translated, is it possible that I have the typo corrected and what are the agencies in the USA that do the translation.
---- Any notary can translate who knows both the language, or your friend should translate it in English and should provide his/ her address name and write that he did the translation and it is translation of the birth certificate of XYZ in english and he can go with you to any notary or bank (bank has free notary service) and sign before notary on the translation and letter

You can read the sample of non-availability certificate and affidavits on www.immihelp.com
