Question regarding application for adjustment

Can anybody help? If I send all the paperwork for the adjustment process, when should I expect to receive any kind of notice from immigration? Or I just have to wait some years before hearing anything from them.

Thank you

I-485

Once you send them your I-485 accompanied with all necessary documentation. They will send you a receipt telling you that "On so and so date we receied your application to adjust your status to permanent resident. It is currently taking us 570 to 600 days to process this kind of application. We'll send you a written notice once a decision has been made on your application."
This a generic response and believe you me that it takes them a lot longer than 570-600 days. For Asylees, it is the worse. Now you are talking about almost ten years. After this notice you'll be asked to go get fingerprinted which could be any time depending on the USCIS mood.
Hope this helps.

You should receive a notice of receipt in the next few days and they will tell you if you failed to send any needed documents or if you satisfied everything. The date of this notice will be the date you will always remember to see the progress of your green card. It should look like that: LIN05 xxx-xxxxx Good luck and hope they change the laws for you, otherwise you will have to wait 14 years to get your so called adjustment!

You should receive your receipt notice soon or you can obtain your receipt number by looking at your cancelled check. You can track your case online by using the receipt number (though nothing will happen for ten years).
