Question on visitor visa for my sister

I am planning to send the I-134 form for my sister (I am GC holder). I'll also be sendign the employment verification letter and tax returns, etc. My question is that I am the one "sponsoring" her..however the tax returns are filed jointly by me and my husband. Does that mean he has to fill out the I-134 as well? Probably not, but just wanted to confirm.

Thanks,
Meera

Tax Returns should NOT be an issue and married filing jointly should NOT be a problem at all.

I too am sponsoring my sister and sending the Sponsor (by me) and tax documents(Filing Jointly)

Thanks PRholder. What all documents are you sending and what docs is your sister carrying with her for the interview? My sister is single and working. I know its not easy for her to get a visa, but no harm in trying.

Have another question for the gurus:

My parents got 10-yr multiple entry visa 2 years ago. But they still have not come to the US (my grandmother passed away and they have to take care of my grandfather). Would this be an issue for my sister when applying for visitors visa?

Thanks guys!

There should be no connection between your sister's visa application and the non-usage of their visas by your parents. However, I have a question. How old is your sister and does she work? I personally think that I-134s are counter productive for most applicants. If your sister is employed, she should try to qualify on her own without you sending an I-134.

Would this be an issue for my sister when applying for visitors visa?

Yeah, my sister is working (business) and she can sposnor herself. However, I was always under impression that one has to send I-134 for the applicants. I did that for my parents also. Is that not so?

That cannot be further from the truth. Assume it is true for a minute. Then how do thousands of families with no relatives/friends in the US, visit disneyland and universal studio every year? :)

However, I was always under impression that one has to send I-134 for the applicants.

That is true.Triple Citizen is absolutely right. These days its easier to get a visitor's visa by showing that you have investments, property, business, stable job and basically ties with your own country. If your sister can confidently show her tax returns in business, residence etc,she should not need your sponsorship. Just a letter of invitation from you stating that you invite her and you will be responsible for her is more than sufficient.

Why is that needed even? B-2 is a tourist visa. Tourism in no form or shape is limited to visiting places where an individual has family. I have visited over 50 countries in my lifetime. 95% of them when I held just Pakistani citizenship. Barring the US and Saudi Arabia, I did not have family in any of these places. I qualified for my visas as a tourist only, including the US. In fact the toughest visa to acquire was India where I have loads of second/third cousins :)

Just a letter of invitation from you stating that you invite her and you will be responsible for her is more than sufficient.

I have family and friends who have visited me over these many years. I have always just sent a letter of invitation. However, each one of them said that they were never asked to show the letters.
So, Triple citizen may be right. However, it just makes one feel better prepared and confident in the eventuality that they do ask.
However, tourism, disneyland in particular is a very good reason to visit.
Tax returns, investments, property and earning statements have been asked for.Even if they have not been visually verified, the confidence with which you can say that I can show you my portfolio makes a lot of difference.
I don't know if your sister is in India. But these days its not uncommon for the officers at the consulates to interview successful professionals who have no desire to leave their home country to settle anywhere else. They actually believe you when you tell them that its just a pleasure trip.
Best of luck to your sister.
