Question on traveling with an I-551 stamp

Dear Gurus -

This may be a common sense question; however, I would like to get your input on this before I pay more money to the immigration attorney for consultation.

My I-485 has been approved under Section 245(i) on 7 February. Now, once I have the I-551 stamped on my passport, could I travel outside of the U.S. and be readmitted without facing 5 year entry bar for overstaying my visa?

Please advise!

Thanks,

Japanese

Yes. You can safely travel. Once your AOS was approved all your over-stay 'sins' were done and dusted ! :)

I beleive you filed 245(i) or (K), right? So you have already 'paid' for and have been pardoned for the overstay.

Thanks!

Thanks sertra2002! Yes, I amended my I-485 to 245(i) after receiving an RFE and realizing that I overstayed my visa by about a month.

Japanese,

Please consult your travel agent. If you are transiting via Europe, you will most probably need a transit visa. Your I-551 stamp may not accecpted same as the physical green card.

Thanks, Planet3rd!

Thanks for your input, Plant3rd! Luckily, I normally take a direct flight from Chicago to Tokyo so I don't have to worry about having to stop over in a third country for transit.

I will post my stamping experience when I am done with it.
