Question on the form DS-156

Hello,

The question no 36 asks "HAS ANYONE EVER FILED AN IMMIGRANT VISA PETITION ON YOUR BEHALF ?, What does an immigrant visa petition means ? I have already applied my I-485 last month, that means do i need to say YES to this question ?

Any help is appreciated.

Answer is NO

The DS-156 form is for the visitor person. The answer should be NO based on your status.

Immigrant visa petition is either I-140 or I-130 depending on whether it is employment based or family based. If your I-485 is based on any of these, then answer YES.
 
What exactly is the answer to that question?

Well, i have a F1 Stamp in my passport, but after school i have been working on a H1-B for two years now, and i have a valid H1-B this time. Also my company has started GC process recently, (exactly whether they have turned in the papers for LC or not is not not known to me., i can enquire...)

I am plannning to goto madras for a fortnight in oct., So when i goto the chennai consulate, what am i supposed to write down for item 36 in form DS156.,

Also, is there any chance i might get the question in an interview? If i do get it, what is a good answer...

There are a couple of people more at my work who dont know the answers to the above., And one of them is leaving first week of august.

SO if any of you can give some opinion soon i would greatly appreciate it.,

i dont know anything about 140 or 484...

The situation is that: My company has just started placing ads, and they will continue that for another month. AFter which i think they would send it for the First Stage (?)... Labor at federal and state...

So based on the above, do i fall into the 140 or 484 category?

Since your employer has not filed I-140 (assuming your Labor certification is still under processing/being filed), you should answer NO to that question.

My company lawyer had been on vacation for a week and i was trying to book a tciket for travel...and needed some qucik info., My lawyer came back this mornig and gave me essentiallyu the same answer...Thanks to all., Balaji.C
 
multiple stamping in canada-mexico

HI all.,

Has the multiple entry stamp on passport from mexico and canada been stopped?

If so, can i do it in washington dc (a collegue of mine said that and he is not sure about that...)

Are are there any other options without going to homecountry india...i am planning to bring may parents here for a visit and so would like to save on my trip...

Multiple entry visa from Mexico and Canada has not been stopped. To get your H1B visa stamped on passport from Washington DC/ St.louis you need to have a similar visa (H1B) already stamped on your passport.
