Hi,

My citizenship process is in progress presently (have the interview in February). In the meanwhile, we were thinking about filing the papers for my spouse. Is there any advantage in waiting for my citizenship prior to doing that (in terms of the time it takes for processing).

Thanks.

I was advised by my lawyer not to file papers for my spouse while I am on green card.

It is recommended to wait until you become citizen.

You can always apply while you are on Gc but once you become a citizen your category will change and you will have to call INS again for status adjustment of your wife, which will delay your application.

Better wait for another month and then apply.

Fill out all the necessary forms and mail the forms right after your oath ceremony.

i agree with you ,if you are that close ,better wait 1 or 2 more month untill you finnish the whole process for your citizenship and then file for once .
i tell you that from my own experience because i filed for my wife on dec 2001 ,while i was a resident and now that i have interview and may be oath in march 2003,after that i have to go threw the same process again which is upgrade my current file ,
in one word ,you will save yourself some headache in filling again
good luck
