Question on Priority date Retention/Transfer

I am EB3 retrogressed country (India) with PD July 2003. My I-140 is approved, but I-485 - concurrently filed is pending at NSC. Earlier, my husband had his I-140 approved with PD of May 2001. He could not pursue that case due to loss of job with that employer. Can I request USCIS to assign us the PD of my husband's earlier I-140. If yes, what documents, we need. He only has I-140 receipt and on-line case status approval print out. He would not be able to get approval notice.
 
My understanding is that spouse can be benefited by requesting cross-chargeability. That should allow us to retain PD of my husband's previously approved I-140 and then transfer that PD to both our I-485 applications. I am the primary applicant for our current I-485 petition.
