Hi,
My I 485 got approved on 9-June-05.
When I received PR card, I can see Permanent Residence since date as 9-May-05. Almost a month before the actual date.
Is this an issue I should follow up?
thx
Sunil
Sounds like a misprint on the card. The start date of your PR status should be the approval date of I-485.
This is not a big deal and certainly will not affect your status.
However, there is some sense in trying to fix this issue now. If and when you apply for the U.S. citizenship, you'll need to indicate the start date of your PR status on N-400. If by that time you'll still have a discrepancy between what is written on the card and the I-485 approval date, it might slow the process.
My experience with USCIS shows that if things get off track, even in a minor way, the process often goes into a kind of a buraucratic paralisis and this can go on for a very long time. Now you have 5 years before you can apply for citizenship, which should be ample time, even for USCIS, to fix this.
On the plus side, you don't have to pay the $185 fee for filing I-90 to fix the date problem since the mistake on the card is due to the USCIS administrative error. Still, it is a good idea to call them and ask about this problem first.
