Question on joint-banking account for marriage

I am getting married officially 26th of this month and I want to open a joint-bank account with my partner. My question is that we are both students (19yrs old and 20, my parents will support us) and do not have a job. So we don't have much money and I was wondering if it could bring suspicion if we had a low banking balance like $100 and the fact that we are opening this account almost right before the marriage. Also, my partner is planning to just close her own bank account right now and put it in for joint-account for both of us. That's ok, right? because from my understanding, they wouldn't bother with her own bank account anyways..

Assuming your partner belongs to the opposite sex, there should not be an issue just because both of you are financially dependent on others. Having said that, any marriage may be considered suspect for a variety of reasons.

It is foolish for her to close her account. You each should have an account as well as a joint one. Make each other the "Pay On Death beneficiary" of the individual accounts. For credit purposes the length of time an account has been opened is important.
