Hello guys, I have a question. My wife is not currently working so my lawyer is not sure if she will qualify for the I-134. He said I might need to find a joint sponsor. I have a friend who is willing to help me out, but how do I know if what he makes is enough? He makes about $27,000 a year and lives on his own. So would he qualify under the I-134 guidelines? Can you briefly explain what the INS looks for in qualifying for the I-134.

And if he does qualify, what info would I need from him?

Also, one quick question (I know its out of subject)
Can I file my I-130 with the copy of my marriage license that I got at the court house, or do I need to wait for my certified copy?

Thanks again guys. I really appreciate it. I just cant wait to finally be able to send all this in the mail to Chicago! :)

if you are applying for a GC on the basis of marriage to a USC, then your wife must file I-864, not I-134. Your friend can be a co-sponsor, if your wife's income is not sufficient. If your income is sufficient, you would be your own co-sponsor. Do read the instructions to the form I-864, and do look up income levels in form I-864P.

You need a certified copy of your marriage license.
