Hello All,
We (as in our family) became USC on Dec 3, 2009 and received our U.S passports on Dec 11, 2009.

Questions are:

A) How soon should we return our valid indian passports to the indian embassy/mission/consulate?

B) Could we return the indian passports for cancellation when we apply for OCI?

C) Is it an offense to hold the indian passport for long? Is there a time limit for return?

Any inputs or suggestions would be highly appreciated.:)

Thanks

----------------------- when apply for OCI only send the First page of passport that has Passport number, name ,DOB (signed as True Copy) with OCI application. When OCI reach Indian consulate from Delhi and you go to collect OCI then give them Indian passport for cancellation. if you dont go to collect OCI and want it by mail then you send US passport and Indian passport by mail.

C) Is it an offense to hold the indian passport for long? Is there a time limit for return?
---------------No
Any inputs or suggestions would be highly appreciated.:)

Thanks
FYI one of my friend applied OCI through New York Consulate and when he went to collect OCI and U visa in US passport they did not cancellation the Indian passport. He asked the person at window and he told that not needed as Passport has been cancelled by Delhi in National passport data.

Thanks Ginnu.
But the Indian Consulate at the San Francisco office wants us to send the original US passports during the application stage itself.

 Last Indian Passport held in original
 Two self-attested photocopies of the first two and last two pages of the Indian passport.
In the event, the Indian passport is not available, we require the following:
 Copy of domicile certificate, or any photo ID issued by the Government of India or of a State of India such as: Voter ID, or
 Copy of Indian Birth Certificate, and
