Question on EAD, H4 and employment

I filed I-485 for my wife and I and both of us received EAD. Our H1 and H4 status are expiring shortly, so I have filed for an extension of both, but have\'nt received approval yet.
My question is if my wife starts work using her EAD, and the H4 approval comes in afterwards, is that a problem (does her status revert back to H4?)
Also, if she starts work using EAD after the H4 extension approval comes, does it automatically mean that she is giving up her H4 status, or do we need to inform INS?

your spouse\'s H4 is dependent on

your H1 and not on her usage of EAD. So, she can go back to H4 at any time. I believe a simple travel outside US and enter back in H4 will fix the problem.
