Question on birth certificate for i-485 based on asylum

i'm preparing i-485 based on asylum. but i have difficulty to get the birth certificate from the birth country. i guess this is a common issue for asylum seekers. can i submit i-485 without birth certificate? does anyone have similar experience? thanks in advance.

I did not send in my birth certificate and they never asked for it.

A notarized statement from someone who has personal knowledge of your birth (your parents/siblings/doctor) is sufficient.
