Hello there,
I have a question from the N400 application in #10

G. Selective Service Registration:
33. Are you a male who lived in the US at any time between your 18th and your 26th birthday in any status.

The answer is yes but I never registered with the selective service and its asking me to attach a statement why I did not register. I'm 27 years old and I got my green card in June 2008..

the question is what should I write in the statement?

What status were you in before you turned 27? If you had a valid non-immigrant status like H1 or F1, your answer to Q33 should be NO since you didn't need to register.

If you are 27 y.o. now and got your GC in 2008, this means that you were around 24 y.o. then and so you were indeed required to register.
The first thing you should do is to check if you are actually registered with Selective Service. If you received your GC via adjustment of status (rather than through consular processing), you were most likely automatically registered with Selective Service when you got your GC.

Check your status at the Selective Service website:

Come again? If it turns out that USCIS did not register you with Selective Service, you should basically write the truth. What was the actual reason that you did not register? Did you not know that you had to register? Knew but forgot? Knew but did not think it was important?

First inquire with SS to determine if you weren't automatically registered and go from there.
