If instead you came with a K visa (therefore you already had an interview at the Consulate) for fiancees and then you apply for AOS after you got married (within 90 days of youe entry), then you might be exempt, not necessarily though.
I've never heard of anyone applying for AOS (no K visa) and getting the GC without the interview.
