Question about visa expiration

Our case number is EU134**.We had our interview on January 3.
Everything went great. The consulate officer told us to come get our visas on January 8. My father, who is the winner, got them today.

The thing that I'm worried about is that my visa expires tomorrow,on January 9,as I will be 21 this thursday,January 10.My parents' visas expire in July.
Can I follow them to the United States, when they move in April?
Is my visa still valid for six months, even though it says it expires tomorrow?
Does anybody know about a similar situation?

no, the visa has "valid until" date, and it may not be valid for all of 6 months. It should be valid past your 21st birthday, since you didn't age out yet. It looks like it is a consular error. You should contact the consulate to correct it. It's just not right to issue a visa good for one day only.

assanissi, if your passport was valid for more than 60 days on the date the visa was issued, the visa must have been issued for 6 months. It was a consular error, and you must contact the consulate asap to correct it.

Congradulations to ur family.
But I guess your case is somehow like mine. Mine is valid only for 2 months because of the Australian police certificate (I lived here for 4 months and thats why I didnt need to apply for one if I enter US in less than 2 months).
IF IT PASSESS "even one hour" FROM THAT DATE THEN MY VISA IS INVALID and I will have to apply for a new one if still there are visas available for my country.

I am not absolutly sure but I think it is the same for your case because you are DV2 catagory and that means you should be in US before you become 21!!! because it is the condition for DV2.

If I am right the only way is to enter US before 11.59 pm of janury 9. I am not really sure if it is the case for you but mine is exactly like what I told you. If I were in your shoes would definitly look for the first flight to anywhere in US...

At the end again I emphesize the fact that it is "my opinion" and "my case" and doesnt mean that it is absolutly right for your case... Plz dont panic.. The best way is to contact consulate on phone or ask them in person.. the quickest and most straightforward way...

it's not the same case. Yours is based on a validity of your police certificate. His is based on CSPA act.

There is a complicated issue about aging out because of the 21st birthday, but a person who turns 21 can still get a visa and can definitely enter the US even after the 21st birthday, if some conditions are met. There is a formula in CSPA that calculated the immigrant's "age" for immigrant benefits as opposed to his physical age. IN this case it was a consular officer's mistake.

We all hope that it is a consular mistake.

Thank you guys for all your answers.

I called the consulate yesterday and the lady on the phone told me to come to the embassy along with my passport and the envelope with my name on it,so they could give me another visa.

I went today and after two hours they gave me my passport with a new visa on it and a new package. The new visa is valid for six months.
They didn't say explicity that it was their mistake or apologise to me.
Anyway,I hope I don't have any problem at the POE.

Thank you once again guys and my best wishes to all you.

I am planning to travel to the us in March to complete my process for the green card and to search for a job. My question is it possible to travel outside the usa before the card is issued in order to bring the rest of the family.

however, some airlines like AirFrance do not let you board the plane back to the US unless you have a plastic GC in your hand. Better find out beforehand what the policy is for your airline.

Even if someone has a return ticket and not one-way?

yes. I can give you a link to the story, but it's in Russian. The girl had to stay in Israel for several more weeks while the US consulate was preparing a special letter for her with which AirFrance finally let her board the plane.

That's messed up. However I'm assuming you're still allowed to travel with the 12-month stamp, right? Maybe sticking with US airlines might be a better choice.

Assanissi: it's great it all got worked out in the end!
