Hi guys,
I think LucyMO or goodisgoodtome told me that i should have my tax return paper with me when I go for interview at US consulate in Nepal after I-130 is approved. Have a few problems with that !!

first year in the US (from aug. 2001), I did not work at all and I also did not know that I was supposed to file taxes. so, I never filed taxes in the year 2002. I filed taxes for straight 3 years and then again I did not file my taxes for 2006 because I was in out of the United States. Now, the problem is I dont have the tax papers even the ones that I filed. I left them in the US before I came to Nepal. My roommates were irresponsible assholes. AFter i left I dont know what happened to my clothes, the papers that I left there and also my car and much more .!!

I am not worried about the loss in money (clothes, car, etc). but whats gonna happen if the consular officer asks for tax papers and i dont have them ? how big of a problem could that be ? Is there a possible to get a copy of what I have filed in the past? plz help guys

Fastest way is to ask them to fax you. If you are outside the country you can create a free virtual fax mailbox which gives you a US number and you can receive fax as documents in your mail. You can then print it.

k7.net for free fax.

yes i was the one that told you to get the tax transcripts you can order it by calling...."1-800-829-1040" it is usually delivered fre of chrge, but since you are outside the US they might charge you for mailing but that i'm sur would be a very small amount and you will get it within 14 business days. Or if you are against your time line for interview then call and request them to fax it to you.... as long as you have a valid fax number that is not a business number.. they kind of like private fax lines not business just for your own privacy.

thanks a lot guys,

It has helped a lot. but what about the two years (first and last year of stay in the US) when I did not file taxes ? are they going to bitch a lot about it ?

You need to have reasons why you did not file taxes. Best will be a letter from IRS saying you had waiver or you did not need to file taxes.

I think you should file the tax returns and clear everything with IRS. That way you will have no trouble with IRS or USCIS.

That is exactly what we did. My husband arrived in the US in late-1991 and has been working since early-1992 (unauthorized so he didn't file any taxes). We got married 11/2001 and I was worried about his non-filing status with the IRS . So we went to an accountant and filed all of his back tax returns to make him current with the IRS.

i'm sure you will be fine.. they will know that u weren't in the states, and if they ak tell them that you sincelly will file for the last year as soon as you are back in the states... that u werent able to receive u're w2s from your employer when u travelled.
