Question about stamp

Hello every one. I'm long timer reader of this forum. Just figured out how to post.
I have a question about stamp. After you get GC approved, do you have to go get a stamp on your passport or whatever card? Or can you just wait for the card to come in mail?
Thanks in advance. :)

Little_hope,

You must go into your local CIS district office to finalize the approval/adjustment process. At least that is what has been going on. I believe you need to fill out a form I-89 infront of an immigration officer. It is at this point that they will either take your national passport and stamp it or take your 3rd picture and give you a temporary (white card) greencard.

I don't know why you would rather just sit and wait for the plastic card to be mailed. It often takes between 6 months to 1 year to get the plastic card - and having a temporary document showing your new PR status is invaluable.
Upon adjustment, your status in this country has changed in a positive way and you need to have something that documents this.

Lolali,
Thanks for reply. The reason I'm asking is that I read somewhere it said CIS will no longer issue temporary white card. Rather they will send the plastic card faster. Not sure if it's truely happening.

We wish! That was something they were testing out - it actually hasn't been implemented. You'll see the instructions once you get your approval letter. I believe they are still requiring you to go to the local office.

Can someone who recently got approved confirm this?
