Question about Options after getting a green card

Hello everyone,

I'm a US citizen, located in US, and I applied for my India-based parents. They got their greencard at New Delihi within a week of submitting all the papers.

The thing is, we all always thought the entire process would take at least a year, so getting the greencard so quick was a surprise. Now it says that my parents have to move here by July, which is in 6 months.

I want to know what are the options? I heard there was some way you could waive the first entry into US for a year or so? Is that so? Please I'd like all information about this matter. Because my parents say can they postpone coming here for at a year, or not??

I thank you all for any help you can provide.

I have never heard of such!!!
They can come here and invoke their immigrant visas. After that, they should be able to make one 11 month long trip to India without any issues. For a longer stay outside, they should get a re-entry permit before departing the US.

If they didn't already go for the interview there are some options to delay it, but now that they got interviewed and approved they have 6 months to enter the US and that cannot be extended. But that doesn't require them to pack up everything in 6 months. They can enter the US for a few days or weeks to activate their permanent resident status, then go back to India for several months* to pack up their stuff and wrap up their affairs.

*they must return to the US in less than a year, unless they apply for a reentry permit when in the US

Surely it wasn't just one week between you filing the I-130 and them getting approved? Do you mean it first took a few months for the I-130 to get approved, and then after the I-130 approval it was just one week from the time they submitted the relevant papers on their end until they got the immigrant visa??

I think the OP means his parents got the immigrant visa a week after the interview and the submission of the necessary forms at the time of the interview.
