Question about Oath

Does anyone know what happens at the DO between Interview and Oath?

Here's the thing...I was interviewed at the Denver DO on June 30th and passed the interview (received letter at the end that said recommended for approval) and was told that I would receive Oath letter in about 4-6 weeks.

It's been more than 6 weeks now so I called the USCIS number and spoke to a 2nd level IO to get some updates. I was told that I'm in queue for the Oath.

I'm trying to understand if there is any processing that happens at the DO after a successful interview. My case is pretty straightforward, btw, based on 5 yr PR. Also, somebody I know got interviewed after me and also got done with their oath. I understand that all applications are processed independently, but after they pass they interview shouldn't everyone be in the same queue.

So does anyone know how this oath "queue" works? I'm anxiously waiting for my Oath letter!

Your thoughts and input is very much appreciated.

Btw, anyone in Denver in the same situation?

You are in line for the oath ceremony. It means there are people who are ahead of you and they are being assigned dates to be sworn in as Americans. :p Just wait till you are issued a letter and invited for the oath. I can assure you it will be done, just sit down and wait for them to do their job while you keep your 9-5. I promise you that you don't want to work at USCIS, can you imagine being quizzed as to why something didn't receive their oath letter even though they are at the back of the life? You aren't in the worst possible situation my friend..get a smoothie at Whole Foods tomorrow, will rejuvenate your body...:D

Thanks

Yes, my friend, I know I'm not in the worst possible situation, or even a difficult situation for that matter, that many folks unfortunately find themselves in, often for no good reason or explanation. I know I am fortunate that way to have gotten to this stage without much hiccups.

Several DOs in the country offer same day Oath and several don't. Given that fact, it seems that there should not be any else left to "process" at the DO after a successful interview...that's my understanding. But what do I know, maybe in some places they do more!

You wrote, "It means there are people who are ahead of you and they are being assigned dates to be sworn in as Americans." I do understand the concept of the "queue." That's why it made no sense when someone I know, who got interviewed a few weeks after me, at the same DO, already got done with their oath. Using your logic, wasn't I supposed to be ahead of them? Not that I'm complaining, just trying to understand better.

So I was wondering if anyone has any info/experience on how this Oath "queue" works.

I know I gotta chill and wait for the OL to arrive. I'll probably be the last one to finish from the "Q1 (Jan-Mar) 2009 filers" group! LOL..someone's got be last. :D

Anyways, thanks for your reply. I'm learning a lot on this forum...many folks here are so sharp and knowledgeable. And the combined power of this think-tank is mind-blowing. I admire, respect and salute all these guys, not just for their knowledge but also cause they take the time to help out so many folks.

6 weeks does sound a bit long although not excessively so. I suggest that you contact your local congressman's office and ask them to make an inquiry with USCIS about your case. In my experience USCIS responds pretty fast to congressional inquiries about case status and also provides much more meaningful and informative answers.

Hi Zerogravity,

We are on the same boat.
Completed interview and sent additional documents on July 17th.
The second level IO said my case has been approved and I will be receiving oath letter any time. I have been waiting more than a week now since then, nothing.
I heard from this forum that they will be sending oath letters in group , approx 3 weeks from the oath date.
Any advice or comments?

Considering that USCIS has up to 120 days to render a decision after interview, the standard response you will get from them is to wait until you approach that time limit.

Ok guys, thanks much for your feedback. Yeah, I'll definitely give it some more time before I start to worry. Hopefully I'll have the OL soon.

Sirus, good luck to you. Please keep us posted. You never know, we might get scheduled for Oath together! :)

Hi Bobsmyth,

Thank you for your kind reply.

I have one question for you: why my online status has never changed since the Notice of action?
Should I expect online status change through citizenship process or at the end?

The online status system is inaccurate and not up to date..I wouldn't pay much attention to it..instead get your updates by talking with an IO.

Thank you Bobsmyth,

I appreciate your kind reply. As you know, it is frustating to complete Interview and be waiting for the oath letter without getting it.
So how often can somebody call 1800 , the second level IO for the oath letter (once a week, once a month?)
Is not infopass better than 1800 number (second level IO)

Update

I finally received my Oath letter last Saturday. Yay! I'm scheduled for Oath on Sep 23.

The letter says "You have been selected to be part of a very special naturalization ceremony being conducted at..............". That might explain why they took so long to schedule my Oath! Anyways, I can see clearly now the rain is gone.....It’s gonna be a bright, bright sun-shiny day. :)

Good luck to all my fellows.

Hi Zerogravity,

Congratulation to you,
You must be very happy.
I saw your oath ceremony is very special. Whys is it though? may be because of name change?
Just for curiosity.

Congratulations!!! The oath is going to be special because Rush Limbaugh is going to be the guest of honor, to speak about the importance of being a good American and how NOT to grab your ankles...:D

@sirus - Thanks. No idea what's special about the Oath ceremony that I'm "selected" for. I'm not changing my name or anything. I have had to wait for almost 3 months between interview and Oath. It's not a big deal, it's just seems longer than the norm. I'd have been much happier to just get it done sooner, like most folks do. I hope Denver DO starts offering same day oath after a successful interview sometime in the near future. I think it will make the process a bit more efficient for folks to come.

@Al - Thanks! Heheh...Mr. Limbaugh prolly will be there to protest against handing out citizenships! :)

Hi,
I have a question about name change and oath ceremony at Philadelphia. My husband and I, we applied in May 2009 and had our interview on Aug 24 2009 at 1600 Callow Hill, Philadelphia.
Since we had opted for name change, the officer gave us a form to sign with our new names and said that we would be receiving the letter for oath. The office who interviewed my husband said that the oath for him would be on Oct 26 2009 and would receive the letter by mail. It's been more than 3 weeks and we haven't received any letter for the oath ceremony.
My question is would name change delay the oath ceremony in Philadelphia? Is there a way to contact anybody at the Philadelphia center to get an update of whether the ceremony date has be scheduled for us.

Thanks.
