Question about New GC and SS

When I was on a F1 visa, I received a restricted SS card (the one with can only work with INS authorization)
Since i've received my GC, do i just go into the local SS office and request a non-restricted SS ?

Yes. Download and fill the SS5 form and go to the SS office to submit it (to get the new unrestricted card having the same SSN).
 
I'm exactly at the same situation. Today I went to
SSA and they took photocopy of my GC and passport.
The officer told me he tried to verify online but the
system was down so he would do it again soon and
I should get the new card in a couple weeks by mail.
Also they gave me a document that basically states
this.
