Question about I-94

I've read people talking so much about I-94s here in this Forum and I have a question:
When you are granted asylum, are you supposed to be given a new I-94?
What about when you come back to the US from a trip overseas, do they give you another one?
Because I never got any I-94 axcept for the on I got the very first time I came to the US ( now expired, obviously), and when I came back from my only trip after getting my RTD they simply stamped it saying " asylum granted"
By the way, FYI, the only document I have to prove my asylum status is my judge letter, ( and the RTD)

Anybody has a word on this?
Thank you

You are eligible to get an I-94 that is valid indefinitely. You will need that as a proof that you were granted asylum when you apply for a job or school. Many institutes ask for it so go to your local immigration office and ask for it or ask your lawyer to do that for you.

Thanks shamshon

But do you know if I can get that fast track or it's usually the same process like other documents.... ( like do we need to apply, get ND, check status online, etc)?

I believe you can get it immediately. Now, they may have changed the rules so give it a try and visit the local office or speak to your lawyer about it.
Best

I went to Detroit office to get an I94 that would prove that I am an asylee but he said he cant give it to me since I applied for I485. The only prpve I have is the letter from Judge which is pretty much useless.

Did you tell him you had applied for I-485?

and did he check on your records or he just told you that?

The other thing is they issue I-94 with expiration date on it. I applied for mine in my local INS office and I recieved it only in 3 months after that.Plus it has a red stamp with the date.I presumed it was the date of issue. But when I tried to apply for unrestricted SSC the clerk said that it was an expiration date. The funny thing is that the expiration datewas 4 days earlier the date I got my I-94.

Anybody else has expererience on this?

this is an unacceptable answer. I got mine while my I-485 is pending.

Hi All -

You have a right to a valid I-94 that that states your Asylee class, employment authorization, and indefinite validity date. I suggest you schedule an appointment with an Imigration Officer using the new tool CIS has now. Make sure you take the letter granting you assylum and just tell the officer you need an I-94 with the asylum status. I don't think it should matter whether or not you have filed form I-485. Here is an example of what the stamp on the I-94 card should read:

"Admitted as an Ayslee pursuant to Section 207 of the I&N Act. If you depart the United States, you will need prior permission from INS to return. Employment Authorized.
Date_____________ Valid until ________________"

NOTE: Don't worry if the wording on your card is not the same as what I have above - you know how CIS has no standard and everything is different. The most important thing is for you to make sure the validity states indefinite and that the card states employment is authorized.

Good luck. Hope you all get your I-94 cards without much hassle.

Thank you!

Do not give up so easily. You should have asked to speak with an senior immigration officer.

An asylee remains as asylee while the adjustment case is pending!!!!

I have an appoointment at teh Los Angeles Office

This wednesday, November 17th at 2 pm. I will ask for my I-94 and will let you all know what happened.
