Question about H1 dates - please advise!

Hi everyone (especially Guru and other knowledgable people),

I'm new to this forum and planning to apply for my H1 within the next few weeks - praying that the quota isn't reached before I get my application in! Anyway, my question relates to what happens if you don't take up your H1 visa immediately. Does it remain active and if so for how long? For example, say I get my H1 with a start date of 1st October. Can I come into the US and start work on the 1st November or even later?

The reason I ask is that I am an IT consultant and have found a US based agency/consultancy who are prepared to sponsor my H1B. However, they are reluctant to pay me a salary until I actually get a work assignment. I have a few possibilities lined up but it is not yet certain if and when I will get a firm job offer. Now, we could wait for the job offer before submitting my H1B application but then I increase the risk of missing the boat because the quota is full.

I would be very grateful for any advice on this matter.

Thank-you.

If you have concern project assignment, take appointment with consulate once you receive your H1 approaval papers in your hand.

By this you can postpone your visa stamping atleast 3 months.
Once stamped it is always advisable to enter before 90 days (there is no rule in place, like that) , to avoid POE hassel. enter in as soon as possible.
