Question about form I 485

This is my first post and hope I don’t irritate anyone here with my silly questions. I don’t know anything about obtaining a green card and the whole process seems a bit overwhelming.

My situation is the following: I am a US naturalized citizen. My wife entered the US with an F-1 student visa (we did not know each other at the time). She now has an H1b academic visa (she works as a postdoctoral fellow at a university).

Fist question: Since my wife is already in the US, do I still need to fill out form I 130?

Second question: From my understanding, form I 485 is the “main” from for application for permanent residence. I have a copy of the form, but don’t know which category to choose for Part 2(Application type). None of the categories listed seem to apply to my wife.

I would be very grateful if someone could get me started by answering these questions. Thanks in advance.

yes, and it needs to be mailed in the same envelope with I-485.

not really the "main" form. You can't apply for I-485 without I-130.

the category A - the one that will give you a visa number immediately - that's why you need to send I-130 WITH I-485.
