Question about federal withholding tax

Hello everyone, I am a Canadian citizen who did my 2022 taxes in Canada with my usual accountant back in January, maybe February of this year. Shortly thereafter I accepted a job in the US and moved here with my wife and kids on April 1, 2023. I have a TN visa; they have a TD visa. My employer has little experience with international employees so we are not sure whether my wife can be claimed as a dependent re: my federal tax withholdings. (We indicated we would be filing jointly.)

Another question: I understand I don't have to do anything this year with the IRS but will have to in 2024 (for 2023). I indicated for payroll purposes that I meet the substantial presence test for 2023, as I spent zero days in the US in both 2020 and 2021, but will spend every day from April 1, 2023, to December 31, 2023, in the US. Is this correct?

Thank you kindly.

Use form W4 to adjust your federal tax withholding. Amount is withheld based on your filing status and dependents (kids). You are right about your "Another Question"
