Question about Citizenship

Good day everyone. Most likely my question is not new and answered thousand times already. But here on forum is so much information that I was unable to find an answer. May be someone will be able to help me with this. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I had an interview in February 2006. I am in New-York. It went well and I was told by interviewer that my papers are OK, but since in N-400 form it is said that I am self employed he needs to see my 1040 papers for 2000-2005. At that time 2005 form was not due yet, but the rest was delivered in person by my spouse the very next day, and it was taken by immigration officer but he never provided any proof that he got the papers. I have not heard anything back. About 3 months ago I wrote a letter enquiring about my status and sent it via certified mail addressed to the same immigration office I had an interview in. Still nothing. What should I do now? Also is it possible that my quite low income can affect design on sitizenship?

No, your low income should not affect your natz. Did he make you take the english and history tests? If yes, then this interview counts as "initial examination". If it's over 120 days since you've been interviewed, technically you can file a law suit. However, I would try to visit your CIS office to check the status. While you're there, ask them if your background and name check have been cleared by the FBI.

Another path (not necessarily better):

Take an Infopass appointment. Get the Immigration officer to request your file and have him/her go through it to see if there are any impediments to it's processing. There are probably none.

Contact your congressman and your senators to see if any of them will intervene on your behalf (they have staff to do this - be real nice to them :-) ).

If all else fails, contact the Ombudsman at the department of homeland security.

If NYC is anything like Dallas, writing a letter to a USCIS office is a bit like trying to stop the tides -- a completely useless endeavor.

BTW, there is a "Tax Transcript" that you can request from the IRS. It only takes about two weeks to get one if you request it from the web site. It shows that you actually filed and paid your taxes.

Thank you for your time and answers. I did take and passed all the examinations. Another may be a foolish question, but I really do not know. How do I take an infopass appointment? I mean what I have to do, how to schedule one.
 
I agree with everything flydog said. I would add that you should call the 800 number to file an inquiry. here is the number 1-800-375-5283. If after you've done all this and nothing comes out it. You should file a law suit.
