Question about BREACH CANDY, and LILAVATI

I am planning to stay in Bombay only one day before the interview, and get everything done (medical test, photos, bank draft) on that same day.

I need the following information urgently, to plan my various activities in Bombay on the only day I would be staying there:

1. What time does the medical test usually end at Breach Candy (assuming everything went well) ? That is, what time can you leave the hospital for good?

2. What time can you go back and pick up your final test reports from Breach Candy? I believe you can pick up the reports on the same day.

3. Same as 1, but for Lilavati.

4. Same as 2, but for Lilavati.

5. If I have to get everything done the same day, is it advisable to go to Breach Candy, or Lilavati? Photo Studio is close to BC, that is one advantage of going to BC. Has anybody had any problem getting medical report from BC on the same day as the med-test?

I would really appreciate responses.

thanks
Sanjay

Whether is it BC or Lilavati, most likely everything is done by noon at both places. Give and take half hour. And at both places I guess you can go and pick up your reports at 3:30 PM.

I got my done at Lilavati, I was out at 11AM and picked up reports at 3PM.

I personally suggest that you should go to BC as you want to get photos and bank draft done on same day. It will be much easier, because B'bay traffic is too bad.

Just a advise, if you do not have any urgency or other reason, you should at least keep one day in betn interview and Medical.

Sansin,
Till date I was reading that you are planning to stay 10 days in Bombay and in the 11th hour you changed your plan...

One day buffer is always better as advised by Victor and regarding Breach candy my medicals were done by 1.30 PM and the reports were collected by 3.30 PM.

BC does give a break of 1 hour from 9.30 to 10.30 but as we didn't have break fast we utilised that time for breakfast.

The photo studio you are talking about I believe is "My own photo studio" if yes then I would like to warn you that they are closed from 12/1 PM till 4 PM in the afternoon for lunch. So you need to take photo before 11/11.59 AM so that you can get photos after 4 PM.

Rest all is your decision.

Thanks

Agree with both the points mentioned above.

Thanks all, for the advice and suggestions.

VM, I agree that I am thinking of reducing my stay in Mumbai.

Well, my interview is on the 30th August. I am reaching Mumbai on 24th (Tuesday) midnight. I am planning to get medical-test, photos done by Wednesday 25th. I was planning to stay in Mumbai until 30th. But now I think I would go back to my native place (Calcutta) on the early morning flight on Thursday the 26th , and come back to Mumbai on the 29th. So, even if I have my medicals on the 25th, I still have enough time between my medicals and the interview. Just dont see any point in hanging around in Mumbai for 4 days after the medicals.

VM, thanks a lot for letting me know that the photo studio is closed from 12 to 4 pm. This is very important info for me. I will have to have the photos taken in the 9.30 to 10.30 am break at Breach Candy. And I will have to order photos for same day delivery. Is that very expensive?

Also, until what time in the evening is "My Own Studio" open?

Thanks a lot again.

Sansin,

If i were you, I would get the Medicals done in Calcutta. My understanding is that you have also received a confirmation from Mumbai consulate that you can get the same done in Calcutta..

With respect to Photos - I would get it done according to specifications in calcutta and if the consulate does not accept them .. get it done within the Mumbai consulate.. I understand that they have this facility.

This way you only have to spend one night in Mumbai.. and not risk the whole process by not having the buffer days

Just a suggestion...

I have checked with Calcutta clinics. First of all, I could reach only one clinic, that of Dr. Mehta. The rest are unreachable (not answering the phone). They take at least 2 days to give reports. In fact, seems like you have to push them to get the report on the second day. Dr. Mehta was kind of like: "OK, if you are in a hurry, we can give it to you on the next day". I think they may not be as streamlined as Mumbai Hospitals. Also, since they handle mostly family based cases, they sort of fail to understand the urgency, that I want the test and report on the same day. Besides, I have other things to do in Calcutta. i do not want to spend two days at the clinic.

UPDATE:
Just got an email from Apollo GlenEagles. The reports would be ready by second day. But they do not give the reports to you. They would send the report my mail to the Consulate. I have sent an email explaining that my Consulate is the Mumbai Consulate. and that I am supposed to pick up the report in person. Waiting for their reply.

Can someone please tell me, how far is "My Photo Studio" from Breach Candy Hospital. Can I walk to the studio from the hospital (during the break), or do I need to take a cab.

Until what time in the evening is "My Photo Studio" open.

After reading your post I think you are fine.
It is just few blocks away it should take between 10 to 15 minutes walk to the photo studio and you need to take a left after you come out of the BC gate and keep walking and you should see it on the left hand side.

For urgent photos they charge Rs 100 per person and total cost for photos is Rs 250 (+ 100 if you needed urgent).

They are open till 9.00 Pm in the night.

But as you are coming back on 29th you can collect it on that day also so its not urgent.

Thanks

Can someone please post a link where I can find specifications for Immigration (ADIT) style photos?

Also, regarding the second type of photo required (regular passport style), do they accept passport style photos taken in the US?

If I take the immigration style photos in the US, would they be acceptable at the Consulate?

Yes.

Thanks Alren.

Is my understanding correct, that both styles of photos are now required:

3 Immigration-Style (3/4 view) photos
2 Passport-Style photos.

Does the consulate also accept ADIT style photos taken in the US?

Another suggestion.

Get the medicals done at Hinduja. Stay in Metro Preetam. Once the 1st part of medicals gets over, Catch a cab to Breach Candy (about 35-40 mins/ Rs. 100 ish). Get the photos done at 'My Own studio'. Pay Rs. 200/p extra (I think) for 1 hr. photo. If you need the drafts, get the drafts done. About 2 hrs. Catch a cab back to Hinduja. Get your stuff done by 2:30, (3 max). Catch the 5:30 flight to CCU.

(Reason, Hinduja - Will be half way between the photo studio and the airport).

Don't see a reason why not.

Thanks for all the info Sansin. Please let me know what you hear from Apollo.
Also, did Dr. Mehta's office say that they will give you the medical reports or are they saying that they will post it to Mumbai?? I am confused as to why Apollo would NOT give you the reports...

Hope you hear from them.
