Hi guys
do we need to bring all our previous passports as part of the supporting documents for the embassy interview?

I took all of mine (current + two previous) to my interview and they did ask to see them. They told me they just wanted to check I had never overstayed anywhere. But of course, some countries don't issue exit stamps, so I'm not sure how much they could really have told looking through my passports.

I brought my old passports but they didn't want them. They just asked me if there are any U.S visas that are still valid or has not been canceled in the old passports.

Hi , how do they detect overstay?

I men If someone renew their visa & that is not mentioned in the passport and still through with departure stamp(not in us but other country) is that a problem with US embassy?

Well, the easiest way to detect it would be if the person has been caught and their passport has an overstay stamp in it.

Alternatively, in my particular case for example where I have lived in a number of different countries for an extended period of time they could look at the passport and see what sort of visas I had been issued. Say I had only been given a 90 day tourist visa but didn't have an exit stamp for another year then that may not necessarily confirm an overstay - but it would certainly be something they could ask about (just to be clear though - I have never broken a visa condition in anyway. I have had proper permits for all my extended stays :))

I doubt they could always identify an overstay but that's what the woman who took my old passports told me they were checking for. Maybe they just check people like myself who had to list several different countries (4 to be precise) on the DS-230 question about places I have lived for 6 months or more since the age of 16.
