Query: Seeking refugee/asylum in a natural disaster scenario.

I'm trying to get some information or guidance on applying for asylum/refugeee status in the USA if a natural disaster was to occur in my country. Lets say hypothetically a upcoming disaster can wipe out my country due to a tsunami from a pole shift scenario, could I theoretically apply for asylum before the disaster occurs and lets say the USA government is aware of this up coming disaster? Does these meet exceptional circumstances? I know this is an out of box question but I was curious how this would work legally?

It doesn’t. Asylum is granted based on persecution in one’s homeland, not on natural disasters.

You may be confusing asylum with TPS, which is granted at the discretion of Homeland Security to individuals already in the US who cannot return home due to factors including natural disasters. As you may have seen in the news, the current administration does not like TPS much and has been removing it for certain countries. Also, the T stands for “temporary“ - it doesn’t lead to lawful permanent resident status.

You've been watching too many movies.
…most of which have the US, or at the very least NYC and SF, wiped out in such disasters too.

Yes I've watched too many movies, none of these disaster actually occur in reality. Well thanks for the reply and information.
