Protest by fasting for two days?

Hi,
All the initiatives that we think of protesting seem to go nowwhere and we never
get any media attention.

Maybe we need to think of something that almost anyone can do without any worries.
Something that may have no repercussions but get us some media attention.
People are worried about demonstrating outside the offices of USCIS. And this will
only cause nuisance.

Maybe we need to think differently to grab some attention. We need to do something
that we all can participate in.

How about going on a fast for two days? Like just living on water for two days?

What are we protesting? This unfair new memo which allows applicants filing
their I140 and 485 applications concurrently to gain green card in 3 months
while not doing anything about pending 485 applications.

How will we draw attention to our cause?

We will spread the word and we will all go on a two day fast. I will most likely inform
my manager and co-workers why I am doing this. I will work for the first day of the
fast but work the next day from home because I am sure I won't have any energy
to drive to work the next day. I am sure people will ask me why I am doing this and
I can then explain it to them how I am suffering. The problem is that today nobody
knows how we are suffering. They need to know that we have no rights, no way
to present our views and we are just very helpless and at the mercy of USCIS which
is not doing its job.

What do you have to lose. Just few pounds maybe. And that may be healthy for you.

People who have a medical problem please do not participate. But we need to convey
this idea to all the other members and urge them to look at this idea in detail.

You must however inform your HR , your manager and your co-workers because that
is the whole point. Drawing attention to our issues. Maybe you will need to take a leave
of absence. If you are taking a day off don't forget to mention this as a issue in your
reasons to take a day off.

We also need to decide on two days when we can all do this. This will be sometime
next month but will have to be Wednesday and Thursday.

Are you guys interested in joining me in doing something like this? If so then we can
flesh out the details.

How much impact will this have on USCIS and processing. None. But so far nothing
has worked so we just keep trying.

What do you think? People interested please just say yes on this forum and also pass
this thread to other people in other forums or people who are not reading these forums.

We can call it the new USCIS Immigrant diet. Under this diet we fast every month
for two days till we get our green card. I am sure that will keep us healthy and fit
physically.

Plus the money saved by not eating will help us pay the immigration lawyer fees
and help us with the USCIS fee increases.

USCIS has increased the fee without improving the service. We can only afford to
pay so much. And so we are saving money by doing this.

:)

How about fasting in a sequence format .. like everyone takes a day off and sits in front of the local INS office, get a banner saying that this is a non-stop fast from all the I-485 sufferers .. we can call the local media to grab some attention too

What say

I don't think that by not eating anything for two days does any good to your health. It might actually create problems to your stomach, and if you have some other conditions like h-pillory or hearth-burns, it can trigger an ulcer.
By not eating anything for two days is a big shock for your body. Most likely it will affect your brain chemical balance making you irascible and depressed. Your hate for USCIS will amplify, and you will suffer even more.
The biggest shock will come when you will figure out that nobody else except your family will care about your ordeal.

Not that I am all for starving for 2 days but i think gica, u are missing the point and steering this thread in a different (unintended) direction.

I am not trying to steer anything here.
It is my reaction to the affirmation that starving for 2 days makes you healthy and physically fit. That's so untrue.
I understand the point that everybody tries to highlight all the problems we have related to this GC deal and get media attention. I just don't think that starving will do. Starving is an ultimate solution, when everything else fails and you have no hopes left. What will be the next step then? A post in this forum encouraging people to get a canister of gas and set themselves on fire in front of USCIS? (that might be considered healthy too, it burns all your fat!)
Don't get me wrong here, I admire your imagination to find new ways of fighting this. But please, whatever you come up with, keep it real and accurate.

I would assume that folks who talked about starving for 2 days would in fact be of benefit to you were saying that in a light hearted spirit....i.e., merely joking.I think you took that way too seriously.Lighten up, baby ;) ;)
