Proof of Funds while landing

Friends,
Could anyone tell me whether it is mandatory that we carry the funds with us when we land for the first time?
I'm a US H1B holder want to land in December since my medical expires in January, but plans to move permanently only by June 06. So in this case should I take a cashiers check for $10K with me when I first land in December? or can I just show my bank statement as proof for the funds I have?
Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Cashier's check is a safer option, don't know if they accept bank statements as proof of funds. I just completed my landing procedure the thanksgiving week and the officer did ask for proof of funds. I had 2 chks totalling to 10K.

Thanks

Thanks FAA for the info. Looks like I have to take cashier's check and have to cancel that when I return back to US... and again tfr money once I come back to canada permanently...
