Project “Symphony”

Objective: To Organize employment based immigrant community all over USA for
Political Awareness and Action.
Action Items:
1. Identity and list active volunteers to work in each State and each Congressional
District. Target is to identify at least 2 people to work with each individual
Senator and congressman. Volunteer are expected to spend about 2-4 hours per
week for this project. Activities involves attending town hall meetings, visiting
offices, requesting and follow up for personal meetings and sending updates from
your area to Project “Symphony”, etc. Once we get organized and have volunteers to
work with different districts, we can push Project Ocean and immigration related
other upcoming projects, activities etc.
2. Go to www.congress.org
3. Put in your 9 digit Zip code.(where you live). And get your senator and Representative info.
4. click on the photo of your representative, and you will get info of your district.
For e.g. Representative Fortney Stark (D-CA 13th)
Here, the district is 13th of CA.
5. If you will like to volunteer, please add your info in this format.

“yourid” “state” “district number”

For e.g. For me the zip is 94538-3010. So district info is as follows,

Karma_Yoga CA 13

Please use this very format to send your availability. That will make it easy to summarize it in a list. Comments are welcome.

Thanks,

K_Y

Why we need something like project “Symphony” ?

Political awareness is very much needed in order to get any attention. There are several individual attempts in 4 service centers.
• Raj Chandra - Massachussets MA
• checkthisout - New Jersey NJ
• YJay - Virginia VA
• manumahi - Conneticut CT
• Edison - Michigan MI
• Kashmir – Project “Ocean” CA.
And many that we don’t know as not everybody hangs in here. Such attempts are very much appreciated for individual contribution. But we need is a resonant effect, where we hit the issue little bit from every angle in sync.
So when our congressman from “NJ district X” meets, congressman from “CA district Y” at a some informal meeting, they talk a little bit about us. In this forum elsewhere we are organizing to for a law suite. Law experts can tell us how much steam we have against the system. Nevertheless, It will give us lots of attention which is very good to shake the system. While we fight against the system with law suite, Project “Symphony” aims to organize volunteers, so that we can push petitions to congress, to improve the laws that affects us. One such petition is project Ocean.

http://www.immigrationportal.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=99973

Once we organized, there are limitless options that we can try.
For e.g. We can think of generating funds for political contribution. Even if we donate one dollar per person contribution for each petition (requested law change) that we submit, It will make the political community to *think* about us. Not because of the money, but the fact that this one dollar per person is coming from a Professional wizard who is in this twenties and thirties (average) and political aware/active. Not to mention rich compare to average American. Only a fool can afford to take us lightly for our potential when we unite.

Personally, I do not have any political affiliation and would like to work with all parties and all members. In my opinion: A Politician’s views and orientation depends on “several” things. Once we unite, we will be a potential “vote bank” and did I mentioned that we are rich? Those who are against us on immigration issues will think again.

Your comments, support, critics, opposition, humor ….every thing is welcome.

Hi karma_yoga

Thanks for oganizing this effort. I am from Saint Louis MO area. I am willing to contribute in ways I can. But I do have doubt that will these legislators listen to us, since we don't have a right to vote? I emailed the backlog petition to some of them (using the link provided by project ocean), and they didn't even bother to acknowledge they've got it...

I've seen lots action from VSC and CSC. WE should do something here in medwest!

Thanks Hidden_dragon.

Please post your district info.

Yes. We do not have right to vote. And that is why we are uniting.
This Unity will help us to push Project Ocean further.

http://boards.immigration.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=99973

We want to vote. For that we want Permanent residency. For that we want I485 approve as fast as can...For that we want I140 approve as fast as can....so on...

If you ask help for ur I140, i don't know how much That will "interests" a politician. But talk about voting rights and politoical contribution, Eyes twinkles!

About no reply to emails from political office.....

Take the example of applying for jobs. What is more effective?
sending a email or snail mail resume to a recruiter OR calling, visiting, showing your face? Email/ letters to political office is first stage. We have to take it to next level once we past 1st stage.

Face to face interaction is must. Internet is good enough to help us unite. But the real action needed is Actual not Virtual.

It is all possible. We need as many as volunteers from all over USA. This is OUR project. This is Your Project. I am just one of the volunteer.

Thanks hidden_dragon,

But before we divert from the main issue:
Project Symphony aims to organize employment based
immigrants all over USA. The course of action will be decided by the group. I do not know if being alien if we can contribute money or not. But, even if we can not, there are various other legal ways, we can contribute enough in different forms, to get the attention.

We normally seek a quick solution. Like contributing few hundread or more and get a quick resolution.
But this may not be the way that will lead is success here for our immigration issue. It is a long battle.

As I said, the actual action to be taken will be decided by the volunteers group.

But one thing I am very sure of.....
We must unite. I don't have a slightest doubt about our success, once we UNITE.

Of course the decision will be made by the group. It helps to know more about what kind leverage we have against them. Thanks!

My thoughts - time to act is now!!!
Folks, here is what I have learnt and done:

1. Visited a couple of key senators last Friday. The sense I am getting is that they listen best when their own constituents participate.
2. Grass roots advocacy (without any fancy organization behind it) still has a big place in American Politics.
3. We need to get organized immediately.
4. I have asked my colleagues to invite participation from two (or many more) people from every State who are willing to visit their Members of Congress to discuss matters. We will coach everyone about how, what, where etc.
5. If any of you readers wish to be directly involved, please send an e-mail to me or to advocacy@immigration.com with your phone numbers and address so we can contact you.
6. Within the next week or two, I would like us to have a list of appx. 100 volunteers covering every state in USA.
7. I will prepare an agenda and the list of things we should start doing.
8. Siva and Eduardo, I can provide Server Space if you folks want to set up some kind of software for this.
9. In the mean time, keep doing what user webigy suggests.

Any other suggestions?
