Project Kashmir 2 Community Edition Phase 1

for the convenience of those who are not very familiar with java can u post some info on how/what to download and install java to run ur program.

WAC-02,03 status table as of 5/9/2004

The first scan cycle of Project Kashmir 2 Community Edition started yesterday (5/8/2004).
In this scan cycle, we are targetting 60,502 all pending I-485 cases of WAC-02 and WAC-03.
As of 9pm on 5/9/2004, 38,200 cases has been scanned.
It covers about 63% of our target.

Attached is the first report of this project.
To encourage participation, more detail report will be sent directly to contributors for a while.

You can find the previous report at the original Project Kashmir thread:
http://immigrationportal.com/showthread.php?p=777622#post777319

Again, it's not a full scan from 5/2/2004.

Kashmir
Csc Seems Only Approving Only 2nd Fp Completed Application Which They Send 1 Fp Expired Applicant In December And January. I Think They Will First Clear Those And Will Send 2fps Later.
Jit Is Recently Moved To March But They Were Even Approving April 02 Cases Which Comleted 2fps. Some Of Them Even Without Rfe.
What Do You Think Kashmir?

Please follow the instruction at:
http://immigrationportal.com/showthread.php?p=778321#post777938

TO: Contributors second time or after;
You will receive two files:
a) 20040508NNN.in (NNN is 3-digit number)

Please follows the steps:
1) save 20040508NNN.in under "in" direcotry.
2) execute kashmir2scan.zip at "kashmir2" directory.
$ java -jar kashmir2scan.zip
C:\kashmir2> java -jar kashmir2scan.zip
*) It automatically select the latest list of case numbers to scan at "in" directory.
*) You had better wait at least 24 hours from your previous scan.

3) It scans 200 cases, create "out" subdirectory, and store scan results at "out" directory.
4) Send 20040508NNN.out file under "out" directory to kashmir@covad.net .

I really would like to contribute scanning effort but I am not familiar with what you talk about. I am really sorry. I have already contacted my representative and senators. That much I can do. Thanks for your efforts and congradulation for your recent approval

Hi Kashmir,

I have access to 15 ip address so if it helps sent me 14 more .in files. Should we just rescan the files at end of week or do you have another approach in mind?

Congratulations on your approval! I think you more than anyone deserves it! Do you plan to continue managing the scanning or are you going to pass the torch to someone else?

Cheers

I just finished writing a Java program which is compliant with Project Kashmir.
It will scan a month of cases. It has a Swing based UI. It uses a list
of proxies to do the scan. I am going to post the Scanner here for
people to download this week.

Hey Desi-,

Will you be coordinating the allocation of scan-months to volunteers?
Will you be coordinating the allocation of receipt numbers with Kashmir so we don't duplicate effort?
Will there be any issues with multiple volunteers using the same proxy?

Cheers,

Just shoot me.
Very good questions.

Will you be coordinating the allocation of scan-months to volunteers?
Answer is no. People who are interested in tracking the cases for their
month can download my program and run it. It just where your interest
lie. While doing so I will expect that you please post the results to this
forum. The output will be compatible with Project Kashmir scan.

Will you be coordinating the allocation of receipt numbers with Kashmir so we don't duplicate effort?
Unfortunately I can't co-ordinate with Kashmir on this effort. Remember,
my project is slightly different. It is for your personal use. When you have
the information you can also think of sharing it.

Will there be any issues with multiple volunteers using the same proxy?

Yes. There will be issues with the proxies. There are 50 proxies bundled
by default with my program. Thats enough to scan 12500 cases. Assuming
some proxies don't work I am sure you will be able to scan a month worth
of cases will all those proxies. Also the program is smart enough to not scan
already approved cases. But if enough people run the scan at the same
time then they can max out the proxies. But here is the cool thing.
The proxies are specified through proxies.properties file. And this will
be present in the config directory. If you want you can go over the internet
and find better proxies and update the list in this file. You can completely
change the list too if you don't want to clash with others.

I am expecting that about 5-6 people will scan their months. This tool is
dead simple. With the UI you just select the input report file, output report
file, summary report file and hit run. It will show visually how cases progress.

A full scan for a month takes about 3-5 hours. It will be good if people pick
up scans for months of Jan,Feb, March and April. Even four months can give
us a good idea about the trends.

For Kashmir2 - Second scanning

Hi Kashmir,
I am new to software/java. So please bear with me. I am presently scanning using Kasmir2 (K2). The next time you give another .IN file should I delete the old .IN or can I ignore it?

Data Format #1 - Scanned Row Record

desi-bartender,
I like your format for the data. It is pretty compact and easy to read. One thing I would suggest is putting percentages in brackets next to the numbers for each sub heading and a summary at the end of the month. Similar to what Project Kashmir does.

Kashmir, can we have some standards for this? If there are multiple projects running then they should follow similar formats so people don't get confused.

Not so sure we need to duplicate the effort to have two scanners, but we can split the job between 02/03/04. There are thousands of cases and it will require work from too many people to get the data in the first place let alone duplicating it.
I am most interested in the scanned row data.
Project Kashmir has a huge number of records in the following format:
http://immigrationportal.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=78398#post455863
It can be converted but I'd prefer this format unless you have a special reason to change.
The current project uses this format, too.

kashmir2scan always selects the latest .IN file, so you don't need to manually delete old ones from "in" directory.

Kashmir2 Project :

I have already emailed you (Kashmir)the scanned data. It hardly took anytime to do the scan.

Although I have registered for this forum a while back, I have never really contributed anything useful. Especially, the previous programs had some degree complications in getting it to run.

However, with your K2 program it was a breeze. You can now count on me to run this program on a regular basis.

FYI: I am novice to software tools and java etc. But the instructions and the program was so easy to run. So people, please don't hesitate to try this program.

The second scan cycle started today 5/12/2004.
Don't use 20040508NNN.in file any more.
If you have not received 20040512NNN.in files, please contact kashmir@covad.net .
