Progress at Norfolk

Well, I had the interview today. Had to read about 10 questions and say the answers out loud. The N-400 was reviewed and updated. Had to sign on a couple of places and also the photos.

Note: I was asked about the traffic tickets. I had already provided the copies of the court stuff. I was complimented on being thorough-the examiner said many people don't bring those docs.

Application was approved on the spot and an oath letter generated. The big bummer is that the oath is not until May 17! So more twiddling of thumbs for the next three months... The central Virginia district is painfully slow...

By the way, for those interested, they have only THREE examiners at the Norfolk DO. I saw about a dozen files on the examiner's desk. I don't know if they were all N-400s, but if that is all they do in a day's work, no wonder things crawl along.

It seems they were thorough in the interview process..Can you post some more pointers if any like did they look at travel records, tax documents etc,
how much time did the interview take ?

I know 3 months is a pain but it must be a big relief & u are almost there ..

Did not ask for tax stuff. I don't know if they don't care or if it depends on their impression of the applicant. I did provide a typed up update to my travel and associations. I had forgotten to list a few I belonged to in the past and the current homeowner's association. She was delighted that I had that ready. Otherwise, she was going to have me write it on the form.

The interview took no more than 15 minutes. I spoke when I was spoken to and did not editorialize.

It is like visiting the Soup Nazi's shop (if you watch Seinfeld). :) You don't do anything more than what is absolutely required.

You have the very close PD and I still didn't get a letter for FP. keep me posted with your progress.

Here is my time line:

Application mailed: 01/18/06
PD: 01/20/06
FP: ??/??/??
I made some research and it seems to take on average 10-14 month from the mail in date to the oath ceremony in Norfolk VA.
Norfolk DO seems to be small and slow.
I expect to recieve my FP notice around 03/15 and the FP date to be around 04/15 and interview in July and oath between Oct and Nov.,2006.

I haven't recieved FP notice as well .. We will wait & see & u keep us posted as well on your progress.. Another recent member got case processed in Norfolk in 8 months from start to finish..

Do you know if we can ask to have our fingerprint done at other place that the Norfolk office since it has long backlog?? I don't mind to go to Northern VA or Richmond to get my fingerprints done to speed up the process.

I don't think it is possible to change the Service center for FP . I reside in Richmond so I will get FP in Richmond..The FP center is decided by person's residence & I believe USCIS will designate an FP center closest to a person's residence..

There is no CIS presence in Richmond. The only two centers for the bulk of Virginia are Norfolk and somewhere in Northern Va. It is a pain in the behind to drive more than two hours to Norfolk...watch out for the tunnel traffic!

Did u reside in Richmond at the time of filing..? I thought FP would be in Richmond..

I received the FP notice today and it is been scheduled for the 23rd of March.
I believe you will receive yours soon.

Also, are you going to make the finger print at Norfolk office or some where else since you live in Richmond!

Hello All,
It seems that Norfolk office is handling cases faster these days. Some friends have a priority date of 02/28/06 and their finger prints scheduled for 03/31/06, they live in Richmond VA.

Any updates on your fingerprints which been done today. How long you waited in the office before the fingerprints taken, how long earlier I need to be there tomorrow. please let me know.
