Hi, All,

I am a resident of Atlanta GA. I got my I485 approval notice this month. The notice asked me to make a biometric appointment as

"In processing your case, we have reached a point where we need you to make a biometric appointment to have photo, finger print, and signature"

So I made an appointment via 800 number, and went to a ASC(application service center) this morning. All that was done includes what was said in the notice. No stampping of passport etc. I asked the people who work there abouot passport stampping. He said I should do it myself via infopass.

They did stamp my approval notice though.

Any ideas of what I should do next?

Thank you.

Usually USCIS mails actual plastic card (green card) after completion of biometric. You do not need to stamp you passport unless it is required travel outside USA before getting the actual plastic card (green card).

  1. Go, fix an Infopass appointment and get the passport stamped. (You don't want to be defanged to travel for emergency purposes.)
  2. Apply for a new Social-Security Card without the "valid for work with INS/BCIS/USCIS authorization only."
  3. Keep checking the mail-box for plastic-card. If it doesn't arrive within 14 days of your biometric appointment, then keep up the pressure on USCIS by contacting them assiduously. They are notorious in mailing the plastic-cards to addresses where you never even had lived!! (Read my other posts in this regard.)

respone and I-89 form

Thanks for the response. I did request a separate infopass to get my passport stampped in downtown Atlanta. I have not heard of requesting a new social security card. Mine does not bear what you said "work with authorization" (I think)

On another note, I also got a letter from INS asking me to fill out I-89 form. I know realize why I got this.

I called USCIS on December 1st last year after asking my case. My case was approved on December 5th. I think that time my I-89 form was being prepared by USCIS. In December, I received approval notice, and did bio with local ASC already. Today's letter is dated back to my phone inquiry on December 1st. I think my I-89 form was done in the biometric appointment.

I plan to wait for the real card, and ignore this for 2 weeks. If still no card, I will take it to local office.

Any thoughts ....?

Hi, Wanderer^sun,

I received the approval notice last week. The notice says something like "no action is required at this time. We will send another notice to you if biometric is required."

I know I have to submit biometric info becuase all I had is FP. Sounds like you received approval notice asking you to make an appointment. I am wondering can I call the 800 # now to make the appt. instead of wait for another notice. What kind info you have to give when you call to make the appt?

Thanks.

FrakWW, Wanderer^sun,
Congrtats. Please post your details which we can use as reference with a hope that our cases would soon get processesed.

Thanks. Mine is one of the very old case. After 4 EADs/APs, I am just so glad this is about to over. I think my name check got stuck at FBI for over a year. I only did a couple inquiries at USCIS but did not bother to call any lawmakers. My lawyer said it is kind useless.

Chakor, I am indeed from the Retrogressed countury but my PD is March, 2000. I started LC in 98, it is amazing the whole process took 7+ years. My case is really not complicated, no change jobes, no Refs. I think the only hurdles were the snail process @ USCIS and FBI name check. Thank God it's over.

I am in the same boat.

Hi FrankWW
I am in the same boat. MY PD is also '98. I also got the Approval e-mail recently. However I did not recieve the Papers yet. My atty did. They forwarded it to me. It says the same this as your approval notice.
" no action required at this time... may require biometrics .. will send another notice to schedule biometrics."

My actual approval date was December 22. I did not recieve my documents in mail yet. When was your approval and when did you actually recieve them.

I am wondering it they don't have my address correct. I moved to a new address back in Sept and filed AR-11 promptly. My atty says that is not a guarantee they will actually change it in the system.

any advice.

Thanks
DesPardes

My approval date is 12/27/05. I received the letter on 1/3/06 and so did my lawyer. Filing AR-11 alone is not enough if you have a pending case, you need to call the 800# to update your address on you case.

From what I read about biometrics, it seems we need an appointment letter from USCIS before calling the 800 # to schedule an appointment with local ASC. I have not received it yet.
