Procedure to Apply for Wife's GC

Hello everybody,

I am a PR. My wife is on F1. I am going to start her application for PR(GC). Can anybody be kind enough to inform me the Procedures and Events that will follow. By procedure I mean which forms need to be submited and by Events I mean how long will the approvals take. It would be great if somebody could provide an explanation.

if you apply now it will take about 4 years just to get the i-130 approved

two options

if you become citizen now then you can apply at any time

the other option is to wait until she gets out of school and gets a work visa then apply.

that way she can stay legal with immigration intent
 
the procedure is written up at www.uscis.gov. At the moment you can only file I-130 on her behalf.. The approval will take about 5 years, unless you become a citizen sooner -- in that case, she will get her approval sooner. As soon as you become a citizen you will notify the Service center you filed at about your citizenship and her application will be transferred into a "spouses of citizens" line.
