Problem with sending passport for stamping

Hi everyone,

I received the Passport Request today. I just noticed I have a problem with my kids' passports (US citizens). They are expiring in July '07 (so doesn't have the 12 mths validity as required). I applied for this PR process in early 2005 and at the time I didn't bother/worry cos I thought the PPs will expire only in 2007 and there's plenty of validity left.

I dunno what to do now. I am planning to renew their PPs via expediated process (takes 2 weeks in the US). PP number will obviously change. Does anyone know how this will impact the process? I have to send our passports by Nov 12th for stamping. I live in NJ, so I can go directly to the NY consulate and drop the passports there. So I don't think time is a issue.

I am planning to call NY consulate and ask them their input tomorrow. But I wanted to know if anyone here has faced a similar situation and if so what is the solution to this problem. Would really appreciate your inputs.......

Thanks in advance,

NTom

There's nothing to worry about here. Renewing your kids' US passports for extensions does not mean they are getting new passports. The current passports will be extended, i.e. they keep the same PP numbers. I hope this helps.

Thanks Kowojori2000

I didn't know that. I read somewhere that the PP no. gets changed and thats why I got worried. I also thought tht was the case in India. I had a name change sometime back and had to get a new PP issued and then it had a diff. no.

But I guess things are different in the US. Thanks for ur reply :)

In our case my and my son's passport was renewed. You will get new passport along with old one. Immigration will stamp on new passport but it does not mean that your old passport is invalid. You need to carry both the passport if you have required visa stamped in old passport. Even a apssport is expired, visa in the old passport will remain valid.

Thanks OhNoo

for ur reply. Unfortunately we ran into some problems with the PP. In fact we had to go to the PP agency in Philly (we live in NJ) to get it sorted out. So the whole process got delayed somemore. I am yet to get my kids passports back. I have to submit them for stamping before Nov 11th.......

Meanwhile my dumb lawyer gets back to me after a week and saying tht I needn't renew my kids passport and can send it as it is for stamping. Too late, I had already sent it for renewal  and now got into a big mess..........
