Problem with AR-11. What should I do?

Hi,

I’m first time here and have question about AR-11. Hope someone can help me.

It’s been a two years since I got my GC. After 6 months of receiving CG, I’ve moved to another apartment in the same building. At that time I was not aware of AR-11 requirements.

What should I do now? Is this going to make me any trouble with N-400 forms since I see that they are asking for previous addresses? My taxes are with new address.
Should I send AR-11 or not?

Any input appreciated.

File it right away

File it right away and send it with certified mail, keep the proof of mail you get. I do not think they ask the date when you move on AR-11 form.

I appreciate your response. Yes, there is no date on the form, but there is previous addresses requirements on N-400 application with the dates.

I hope I'm not in trouble. But if I send now AR-11, how will I explain difference in dates (filling N-400) with residence, tax etc.
Thank you.

You need not explain unless they ask, and AR-11 processing is so messed up that I doubt they will ever link them all. Generally speaking, AR-11 violations are just a catchall used to deport someone if they can't find any other grounds.

- My concern is how this is crucial. If I mail AR-11 now with the new address are they going to have DATE of changing address recorder or not, since there is filling date on form.

- They have my previous address since it is the one they mailed GC.
- Tax returns are filled with new address.
- It I fill up N-400 form with previous address (date is required too), the dates/address from tax returns etc are not going to match.

- This is creating a problem to me since I don’t want to lie and say that I have lived at the previous address until I have mailed AR-11 for new address.

But I don’t see other option except to not file AR-11, but then they have first address where I received GC.

Calm down. This is the least important form of all to file. Filing it is not equivalent to address change. USCIS will not try to get you on this. If, during N400 interview, officer will request clarification just tell him/her the truth.

Also, even though AR-11 is supposed to be filed within 10 days of address change, it does not ask you to indicate the actual date of change. Therefore, I don't see how you can lie about dates.

If you have re-entered the country (after you have changed house) and if you have given the new address, this should be enough.

File the AR-11. Look, the United States is full of permanent residents who never filed a single AR-11 until 9/11 came around, and INS used that dusty old part of the INA to deport someone since they couldn't find anyone else. They're not deporting people en masse for a trivial mistake.

If you don't file an AR-11 at all, that's like forgetting to file your taxes one year, and then being so afraid that you never file them again for the next 10 years. The first is a minor issue, the latter is not.
