Priority Date? What for?

My apologies for sounding ignorant.

I believe priority dates come into play for categories like family sponsored Visas. But I see many folks talking about Priority Dates (PD) even for AOS based on Labor Certificate. I am a bit confused.

My I-485 (based on Labor Certificate, EB3) was filed last month and I believe the PD dates are and have been current for this category for quite a while... My lawyer checked mark (under Part 2) the first category - An immigrant petition giving me an immediately available immigration visa number has been approved. (Attach.....). Doesn’t everyone who has an approved Labor Certificate do the same thing? No relevance to Priority Dates (?)

Can someone explain...

Thanks!

Since all EB are current there is no relevance to Priority Dates. Because that only we are able to apply I-485 immediately. Otherwise person has to wait until Priority dates become current. That is the reason spouses of GC holders are stranded back in their home countries as Family based immigration priority dates are not current

Thanks!

Amazing. So that means folks from the "era" when PD dates did not use to be current are still waiting for Green Card!!

Sorry guys .. did'nt mean to offend you, but this is really crazy.. Can easily see whats in store for people like us who filed only very recently.
