Previous H1 Visa Holder

Hi,

I had a H1 visa - from 2000 to 2006. However I used only 1 year of my stay.
I changed my status to H4 about a year ago - Could you please tell me if I need to apply for a new H1 or can I extend or renew my previously held H1 visa?
