Preparing for CP in Montreal

TNDV2008

Registered Users (C)
I'm planning to respond to my DV-2008 First NL (DSP122 & DS-230-I & DS-230-II) soon.

As a Naturalized Canadian Citizen with a Non-Canadian wife (Kenyan Citizen with a Canadian Permanent Residence Status), should I start getting the fingerprint work done by the RCMP in Ontario (I lived there for over 10 yrs), and also initiate the Kenyan Criminal background check for me & wifey?

I expect my number to become current in Aug-Sept, so I want to ensure that the window of opportunity does not close when I rush to Montreal for CP processing.

Any advice on how long this "trip to Montreal" will take for criminal check, medicals, and the interview process? Thanks

Do you mean to say that you plan on doing CP but you haven't sent your DSP122 and DS230 back to KCC yet??? If that's the case, better hurry... most people send these back within a week (or a few weeks) after they get the NL!!!

yes...

Yes, I have not sent the forms yet.

There is a technicality that I have to watch out for....I am on TN status work permit (i.e. should not show Immigrant Intent), and this work permit expires every year.

Had I responded last year by sending DS-230, the INS would discover this "immigrant intent" when I apply for TN in April 2008. This fact would disqualify from getting my work permit and put my employment in US in jeopardy.

I am in the process of getting my new TN (good for 1 year) this april, and will respond to the DV2008 via fax. The Kentucky office told me it takes 4-6 weeks to respond to 1st NL response. I have 4 months to go before my # becomes current i.e. Aug-Sept 2008.

I know this is a tricky situation, so I am planning to get my criminal check done early so my trip to Montreal is as quick and smooth as possible.

I understand why people get "freaked out" and respond within 1 week, but this "quick response" does not matter if you have a high #.

Whether you respond within 1 week, or 6 months, you can only be scheduled once your number becomes current.....this is a fact that most people seem unaware of.

I agree that most people respond too fast (me included) and might make mistakes. However, I also know that last year, I think, new NL were sent out to people in Europe in January or so (I don't remember exactly) because not enough people sent back their forms... But I understand why you waited this long and I hope it all works out for you. I'm sorry but I can't help you with your questions related to CP in Montreal. But I agree with you: it's better if you get all your papers ready soon (from what I know the police certificate from Canada takes a long time).

i do fingerprints in kitchener ontario and was done 1 month and a half
but they said before around until 3 month so hurry

It is only if you reside outside Canada that it takes 120 days to process the police check. If you are currently living in Canada it isn't too long.
