Preparing For Application...

Thanks for the wonderful site with tons of information.

I'm sure a lot of people would have asked the same question about "citizenship". yet when the forum gets popular and people start adding threads, I think the basic information gets very difficult to be accessed.

I got my citizenship in June 2004. Im completing my 5 yrs of permanent residence in June 2009. Could someone shed some light on when to send in my citizenship application? Few people say we can apply as early as Dec 2008 [in my case] which is 4 1/2 of my permanent residence and by the time the application gets processed I would complete 5 years - IS THIS TRUE? CAN I APPLY IN DEC 2008?

Please help me with this information.

90 Days

You may apply on the 90th day before the 5 year aniversary of your PR if you are going to meet the continuous residency requirements. What I would do is apply on the 80th day just in case they send the application back. It is on page 1 of the N-400 Instructions.

You meant to say you got your green card in 2004, (not citizenship) correct?
If applying according to 5 year rule you can apply up to 90 days before the 5th year anniversary of LPR issuance. In your case that would mean the earliest you can apply is March 2009.
Make sure to read the guide before you apply:
