I am wondering. If there will be many people filing for premium processing of 140 , will it have any impact on 485?

Can there be many 140 applications peding with old priority dates in 2000, 2001 time frame that people like me that have PDs in later years will have to wait until every one before me is cleared? Ideally, if they strictly follow the line I have no problems but they have this substitution people which are technically out of line people.

Any thoughts, will this PPS for 140, have impact on pending 485s for which 140s are already approved?

I think it will have NO IMPACT. Reason, seems like USCIS and DOJ so sure they are not going to make the same mistake they did it on last year June 2007. This premium processing initiative shows, dates are not going to be current atleast next 2 Years minimum and dates may not move much in coming months. This is how I read it, I may be wrong.

There will be very few pending cases from 2001, 2000. Even for 2001, there are not too many. 2002 is where the slow down starts.
Also, the USCIS/DOL don't always make sure that FIFO is followed so there are no guarantees for it. There are many from 2002, for example, who are waiting and people with much later dates are approved.
Premium processing of 140 is a waste, unless the applicant's PD is current, in my opinion. 140 gets processed relatively fast and there is no point in throwing money away on premium processing, if you're going to have to wait a loooooong time for the 485. It might make sense in some cases but not in the majority.
I don't think it'll make much difference.

Not all 140s are eligible for PPS

This PPS is meant for the peaple who are in need for that like if their LC cleared in their 6 th year of H1B status and not eligible for 7 th yr extn based on theat LC, they can get their 140 thro PPS and get 3 yr extn for their H1B.

Adding to the above processing at different Service Centers also will matter, for eg: Texas Service Center might have more 485's with PD's 2001 and 2000 when compared to NSC / VSC so there is all chaos in the whole process.

If a PPS results in an I-140 approval, resulting in a PD earlier than yours AND this applicant puts in an I-485 when the PD becomes current AND his PD is earlier than yours, AND your 485 doesn't get approved before he completes his 485 application, then yes, your 485 *could* be slowed down due to this, theoretically.
However, mileage may vary.
What are your case details?
