My receipt date is 8/11/03. I just checked the Case Status online, and it still says".....it's taken between 480...."

My I-485 was adjusted on 11/16/03. I got stamped and all, but still no actual processing of plastic card

Regards,

RAsylee,

I think you are very lucky because you applied for a RTD as an Asylee, but then while processing your document, your status changed. They sent you the RTD in 6 month. If you were a permanent resident at the time of your application, you would have waited 14 month to get the same exact document. The only disadvantage is the expiration date of the document.

????????????

You are confusing people.

i am kind of confused
on the application of RTD, there are some options, such as:
1)i am a permanent resident who apply reentry permit
2)i am a permanent resident as a direct result of asylee status and apply for RTD
3)i am applying advance parole........
so after we become resident, which option can u choose? it seems to me that we can apply either reentry permit or advance parole? but will they allow us? since we become permanent resident as result of asylee....we have to choose option 2 before we become the US citizen???

i wish i could use the normal travel document as my friends do, feel bad when people see mine is refugee travel document even if i am truely an asylee.......
best wish

My RTD ND is 06/16/2003 and I am still waiting!!!
I was asked in Dec 2003 an RFE to show my current status is still eligible for RTD although I sent my expired RTD with my I131. They received my RFE reply with whatever they asked on 01/05/2004 and I am still waiting for my RTD. I made an inquiry on 800 number recently and I received a status letter which says my RFE reply was received on 01/05/2004 and is waiting for an officer to review.
I think there is hardly any officers alloted to RTD issues as the production system of the new RTD has improved and there is no reason for such long delays!!
I guess do nothing but wait!!

kaoticfury,

I don't know why are you confused. The New travel documents has a green cover and doesn't diffrentiate the class of people as the old ones. The old travel documents were either has a blue cover and it says on the outside "Refugee Travel Document" or has a white cover on the outside and says "Re-entry Permit". The new green documents will just say travel document on the outside, but in the inside it says your class as either Asylee, Refuge or Permanent resident.

hi:
i know the new document got the new cover on it. but what i am saying is that when we apply it, which option should we choose? can we apply the regular re-entry permit for US resident. Or we HAVE TO apply the re-entry permit for the residents AS DIRECT RESULT OF ASYLEE?

Assuming that you have your green card due to asylum, you can choose to apply for a RTD OR a RP. It is up to you.

I agree with Gilbert. Since the travel documents today looks the same from outside and the only difference is the inside class, it doesn't mater. In the old days people were saying why should they obtain the blue RTD if they are permanent residents? The only advantage was processing time.

However, if you have to be away from the country for a significant period of time, you should obtain a Reentry Permit to help avoid a finding by the CIS that you have abandoned your status here.

New RTD

Hi guys. Since we will be getting new RTD cover, do you think we will have problems entering countries that we dosen't need visa to enter such as Germany or Singapore? The Immigration officer in those countries will get confused as the cober of the new RTD dosen't state Refugee Travel Document.

dont know why, last time i checked processing date, it said they were processing RTD on augest 1 by FEB 4.
but now they upgrade FEB 20, still working on Augest 1
what the hell???

They should be able to tell by reading the information inside the booklet.

Well, this is really frustrating. Is your national passport still valid? I think many folks indicated that they used theirs in the past.

no, my passport has been expired last year, and cann't renew it
thats why i want my new RTD so bad.....

How in the world can you guys renew a national passport? If you fled persecution, why would that very persecuting government grant you a passport? You have to present some form of US immigration papers to renew it, right? Your paper will reveal directly or indirectly your asylum status.

Also, if the BCIS found out about that, they might want to take another look at your asylum story.
