after interview how long can i expect to wait for a decision to my i-485?

my journey has been a long and stressful one.
My wife and i married in 2010 and subsequently filed I-130 which was accepted. I have an a-2 visa (which is out of status) and we had our interview last week. our interviewer kept us waiting over 3 hours before we were interviewed. at the end of our interview our interviewer did not say anything about how long we can expect to hear something back.

i know its been only a week after the interview, and i know there is no magic answer, but im just anxious on what to expect.
 
You answered the question yourself, there is no definite answer. All you can do is WAIT. After 90 days you can do an INFOPASS if you have not heard anything.

There is no standard time for expecting the decision of the interview once it is over. If everything is fine with your application and if your interview had gone on well, then you can expect the decision soon. Otherwise it may be delayed a bit, if the IO wants additional information or wants to do additional checks, then they may take a bit longer. As suggested, if at all you do not receive any intimation regarding your I-485 within 90days, then infopass is the only solution. Keep us posted of the developments.
 
i guess we're going the full 90 days. so far no response on post-interview.....dont know if i485 is granted/denied.

*sigh*

stress.

612 days and counting
336 days on I-485 alone

Which month in 2010 did you get married?

You should hope that they approve your GC after you've completed 2 years of marriage, so you'll get a 10-year green card instead of a 2-year card. Don't attempt to speed up the I-485 approval before your 2-year marriage anniversary.

If granted before your 2-year marriage anniversary, it will be a 2-year conditional card. If approved after the 2-year anniversary, it will be a 10-year card without the conditions.

if granted i dont think i'll care too much on the conditions. its taken so long, at this point if they grant it that will be good enough for us. i just didnt know why its been taking so long when others get approved in 14 days.

30 more days wont hurt, but it would be a disaster to wait 90 days after the interview just to get a denial.

If you get a 2-year conditional card, you'll have go through the I-751 process two years later to extend it to a 10-year card, with more paperwork and fees and waiting and wondering and possibly another interview. Do you really want to repeat the headaches that you're going through now? If you get the 10-year card as a result of approval after your 2-year anniversary, you'll entirely bypass the I-751 process. Your 2-year anniversary is less than 3 months away.
 
It is better to wait and get your 10 years. I did wait 10 months. A friend of mine is going to second interview for is 10 years. Is scared to death if they take it back.

ive already had the interview im just waiting on the decision. im not sure if there is anything i can do right now. i mean would i be able to tell them to wait until our 2 year anniversary before they make a decision?

i do appreciate the answer because i had no idea why it was taking so long. is it possible that maybe the adjudicator is purposely waiting for another 3 months before making a decision so that we reach our 2 year anniversary first?

again i am asking because i have no idea what to expect, then info you have given has helped me understand a bit more. thank you
 
Like i said i did wait 10 months after interview. All you can is call and infos passes. I did 2infos passes so is my lawyer. And i called more thant 100 times. There is nothing you can do beford the first 6 months. Then after 6 months you can contact the congressman. But before the 6 months all they will tell is to wait.

You can't tell them to delay it, but you can avoid trying to get them to speed up the decision before the 2 year anniversary. In other words, just do nothing for the next 2-3 months, and hope they will approve it after your cross the 2-year mark.

Then after you pass the 2-year anniversary, if it still hasn't been approved you can try to get them to expedite it by making Infopass appointments to inquire about it, and contacting the USCIS Ombudsman and your Senator or Congressman for assistance. Sometimes those attempts to expedite it will work, sometimes it doesnt work ... but why bother to try to expedite it now when your 2-year anniversary is so close.
 
I don't understand one thing. Why did you send I-130 and I-485 separately. Is your wife USC? Have you had a lawyer. Maybe you should get one. This is really weird that it takes this long.

Good observation. His I-485 was filed 4 months after I-130 approval, and 9 months after I-130 filing. Something must have been preventing him from filing the I-485 in 2010, like removal proceedings (his signature mentions out of status).

Well the fact that he was out of status shouldn't make things bad. I know plenty of people who were out of status and still were able to get green cart just like everyone else. Even my self, I was a student f1 and I think I went out of status two weeks before I was gonna apply for AOS. Strange case. I hope you get your card soon.

The out of status by itself usually wouldn't be a big problem when applying based on marriage to a USC. But in this particular case, the out of status combined with the long delay for I-485 filing makes me wonder if something more serious was happening, like removal proceedings.

Or it could be something as simple as the OP's wife not being a USC at the time of I-130 filing, thereby making the OP ineligible for I-485 at that time, and then she naturalized several months later.

Whatever it is, the OP has not told the full story, so our answers might not be giving the OP the information he needs.

thanks for the responses. wife is USCitizen.
no removal proceedings, they have not tried to remove me or anything like that.

as to why i-130 and i-485 were filed separately, well that's just how the process went for us. we didnt know what to do and my wife suggested we shouldn't spend money on the i-485 until we knew the i-130 would be approved. so we waited to file the i-485 until we got back approval of i-130 and that is what we did.

there wasn't any adverse action pending, or any legal, administrative, or other proceeding pending during this application process.

again, thanks. this has just been a long application process, im just trying to understand why. that's all.
especially after the interview, it looks like we're going to go over the 90 days POST-INTERVIEW so im trying to understand why there would be a wait AFTER the interview. i see so many cases of people getting GC in the mail 2 weeks after interview.
i just feel like ive been waiting the maximum amount of time with each step of this application process. i-130 took long, i-485 is taking even longer. what gives.
