Hello all,

I am a US citizen and my wife is a UK citizen. We just got married on New Years Eve. She had to go back to the UK though to finish school... and I just cant seem to find all the answers I am looking for. If anyone can help, that would be so beautiful. If not, I will continue my search.

1. What's next? What else do I have to do to get her visa to come over here? I filed the I-130, whats next?

2. Timeframe? How long am I looking at until I can fly her over here? I have heard some people say it is only a few months and some people say it can take 18 months.

3. Visa #? Finally, does she or doesnt she have to wait for a visa # to "become available"

I am very confused about this whole process... I wish there could be some simplification!

Thank you for your help in advance!

Matthew

You file I-130 at the service center in the US, you wait for it to be approved, sent to National Visa Center, then to the consulate in UK, then she goes for an interview. Usually takes about a year altogether. You may want to look in to a Direct Consular filing option at the consulate in UK. If it's possible, it could save you 6-9 months.

Since you are a citizen, she does not have to wait for a visa number, it's available to her immediately. However, paperwork takes time and that's what is causing such a long waiting period.

If it is going to take up to a year, is there any other visa I could get her here on in the mean time (she wont be coming out until 6 months from now) so that her and I can actually live together????

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

I don't think there is much that can be done. Unfortunately, she left the US.(understandably to go back to school) but if she had remained here during the process, it would have went faster. You will have to wait on the paperwork. :o
