Dear Sir,
Thank you for taking the time to lend your expertise.
I am currently a post-doctoral research scholar (post-doc) at a University on H1-B visa status and this doesn't come under the capped quota for H1-B since it is an academic institution.
I am hoping to apply and, if successful, join a national lab soon. My question is whether the current H1-B can be transferable to the national lab without reapplying for H1-B under the quota restrictions.
I have asked my university immigration officers about this and they have no clue. They did say though that the H1-B from the university cannot be transferred to an industry related job that requires H1-B that is quota limited.
In any case, if the answer to the above is no, any suggestions of what other options I am left with? Since the only option I see is to hang around for another 1 year and apply for the quota limited H1-B next april and join in October of next year!
I would greatly appreciate any help/insight.
Sincerely,
Nachiket
