Hi Guys,

Just as an options one has the benefit of processing for Candian Immigration, there are few good Indian firms specializing in this region, I had the same 6 year issue and was able to get over this problem as the Canadian Green Card was issued to me prior to the expiry and I was able to shuttle using that. I got the entire process within 10 months and was very timely for me.

You guys could also take advantage of this method, should you wish to have the Canadian PR as a secure fall back plan....

Cheers,
CGS

When did you apply and when did you get it. Now a days its taking much more than 10 months. And rules have changed. Its not so easy there. Job scene is better in US. If somebody can do LC substitution US process would be much faster.

Hi Gcinfo,

We applied for Canadian PR in Jan 2002 and we are already in Canada, the entire process completed in 10-11 months and have been able to migrate with no strings attached. It is on a case by case basis and if you have a good representation then they take care of everything. Yes the job scene in US may be looking brighter, but Canada is not bad especially after you have a permanent status, trust me it makes a big difference for the long run, with free medical and loads of other advantages, it sure makes a better bet to have as a secured fall back.

CGS, can u tell me if u used an attorney for helping you through the canadian immigration process and if yes, can u suggest the name of the said attorney. We are looking into canadian immigration very seriously and would appreciate any info that you can provide.

I would also appreciate if u can answer some questions for me about the process and outcome. I will post my queries on hearing from you.

thanks!

Hi

Canadian Immigration rules require 'x' dollars to be brought in. Did you show the minimum amount or more than that. Can you tell me as a rule of thumb what amount should be shown (2 times or 3 times)

HI Greenbug,

I don't think a minimum money requirement is that important in assessing a case for landed paper. Your total points are much more important than anything. And that total points' quality also matters, i.e., your job level, education, company's reputation, your suitablity to adjust in the new environment etc etc.

You do not require to show 2 or 3 times the minimum $$$ required if you do not have...

CGS,

If one does fall short of 75 points, is there still a good chance of getting the PR?

========================

If you carry x*15 then you don't have to work fro 3 years in Canada. :D

If yo ucan show whatever is asked for then you should be fine. However, there is nothing wrong in showing more than what's required.

If someone falls short of the required 75 points by 1-3 points, are there still good chances of getting the PR? I read somewhere you at least need to have 66 points to qualify for a interview and then it's at the immigration officer's discretion to decide on the case, is tha true?

They have recently changed the point system and that's what is the screw up.

Did anyone recently get their Canadian PR after falling short of 75 points?

dsujay,

You should not worry about that.I know there was lot of discretion before for interview officers. I am not sure they have somuch but they do have some I guess.[ I haven't seen the latest point system]. I applied in April 2003 with the oldforms.
I believe they still have some points in their hands [ like Language skills etc., also they may award some points even if you have friends or relatives who need not be close relatives during interview time.]

CGS,

Buffalo is processing Jan 2002 for some time according to there website. I applied in April /02 and I haven't got the initial assesment. So things are pretty slow now.

SilverTulip,

This is a simple process and one can apply by them selfs. No need of lawyers. That is one intermediate step which would be more of a hastle and time consuming. I would suggest you to apply your self. Its one time thing.

hi folks,
Canadian immigration ...hmmm... looks like a possible solution for my situation as well - 6 yr H-1B expiring Oct 2004 and my current employer is not starting my GreenCard.

where can I get more information on the canadian immigration and all this 75 points, etc. (I was not aware of this possibility until I saw this post)

Any url link or info would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Bhargava

Take 1 year break and you will be ready for another 6 years

If there is not hope GC or 7th year extension, with the currency comparision and job security, I would go back to India and find a job. Just to update skills for one year and come back on a fresh H1, for six years. I do not want to keep spending money. Finally finances will be same. Atleast there will be great satisfaction of staying with family.
