possible reasons for delay after 'in line for interview'

After FP, I can understand why one case could move faster than another at the same DO - because one case may require more extensive background check.

But what could be the cause for one case to move slower than other cases after FP is cleared and file is places in line for interview. I am assuming that a case is place in line for interview once it has cleared background and name checks. Then why are there further delays and why should one case move faster than another at the same DO?

There are a variety of behind the scenes processes and procedures involved. The actual file has to be physically moved from one place to another. Human error in updating the computer systems can get a file "stuck" in a workflow process. Then of course the volume of cases at a particular office as compared to the available staffing levels is a key factor.

How much time has the case remained "in line"? You have along time to wait before complaining. Check for your local office's processing time on www.uscis.gov
