I've did it for my greencard, but it's depends on how busy they are. You must have FP notice 'in hand' before attempting it.

Update - Received FP notice. Will probably try an early walk-in but not sure which day yet as work in busy.

Update - Check was cashed today and received the NOA in smail yesterday.

Let me know how your walk-in goes, I might be doing the same thing as I have a travel planned in the early part of May which is when I am expecting my FP to be around.

No go on the walk-in (will have to re-schedule work to make original appointment).

They were busy and down a fingerprint technician. A very nice IO was willing to re-schedule my appointment to a later, more convenient time but I told her I would change my work schedule. She could only re-schedule to a later time as they need at least 2 weeks to generate a new notice.

She couldn't find my current FP notice in the system (just my old ones from initial GC and removal of conditional applications) when she tried to re-schedule the appointment, so even if they'd allowed the walk-in, I'm not sure if they could have associated the FPs with the application properly!

Based on the fact it took nearly 1 month from application acceptance to FP notice, I think Portland DO is probably backed up, especially as the N400 non-military prending numbers have been increasing steadily since September and the average processing time is 0.3 months above national goal & average. By comparison, Seattle's pending numbers are pretty steady and I'm seeing fast processing times (around 90 days) based on forum posts.

Completed FP today. 1pm appointment. Arrived at 12:45, was out by 1:15.

As there's no order to appointments within a batch, make sure to sit near the desk (far right corner from where you entered) where you'll hand in your completed paperwork when called and get a numbered card. There were about 10 people in my batch and the process takes about 5-7 mins (had to rescan a couple of prints).

Everyone I dealt with was polite and efficient.

Got my FP letter yesterday. FP is scheduled for May 23rd. Sure is taking a long time in Portland :(.

I am going to be traveling a bit until 23rd, so in effect its ok.

It's taking longer than I would have hoped. I'm travelling overseas mid-July for 3 weeks, so was hoping to get an interview before then.

Based on the progress so far, I suspect I'll get an interview date in the middle of my trip and have to re-schedule!

YL received - driving license + court disposition document for traffic tickets required for interview. The YL was dated 5/2, the same day as my FP appointment.

I sent in my application

5/5/11 - received note that application received
5/8/11 - received LETTER that check was cashed

my question is that I would like to go on vacation for a week within the US in early september. Will this interrupt anything? I'm thinking in 4 months it will hopefully be time for oath ceremony...can that, or anything, be rescheduled?? thanks so much for your help.

sxh168, best see what interview dates GC2NATZ and I get (hopefully in the next month or 2) to have a better idea of processing time for Portland DO. Looking at the stats on uscis.gov, the processing times have improved for Feb (from 5.3 to 5 months), so your timing looks close.

There's not a lot of tracking info for Portland, OR DO on the forums, so I have to assume there's nothing too abnormal in processing times.

One thing that I noticed is that in the April forum, a number of people have already got their interview letter for June, I hope to finish this process atleast by August.

Update via sms & email:

"Your N400, APPLICATION FOR NATURALIZATION is now scheduled for interview"

Should hopefully get the actual letter and interview date by the end of the week.

This is great. My timeline is about 1 month behind you. So I should probably expect an interview around the mid to end of July I guess, that sync's up well with the 5 yr anniversary :).

Finished our fingerprinting yesterday. Place was pretty empty. Appointment @ 11, went there at 10:30 thinking, it would be difficult to find a parking spot (had a hard time finding a parking spot for our I485 finger printing process), but there was a lot of metered spots open on 15th. Called in @ 10:45 and we where out at 11:00. pretty neat. Now the waiting for interview letter starts. I have to make an international travel in June, hopefully no interview during that period.
